Unresolved Circumstances: Video Art from Latin America

The MOOLA (Museum of Latin American Art) presents until August 28 of this year the exhibition entitled Unresolved Circumstances: Video Art from Latin America. The exhibition is divided into three thematic centers: Politics, Culture and Location. Curated by Cecilia Fajardo-Hill and Idurre Alonso, the show surveys ironic perspectives on the past and present of Latin American reality. The first part of the exhibition presents a dialog concerning the cultural reality of the region through the works Cultura (Culture, 1999), by Brazilian artist Lucas Bambozzi, and Miranda en la Barraca (Miranda in the Hut, 2007), by Venezuelan artist Iván Candeo. The second part of the exhibition focuses on colonialism and its effects, gender issues, social inclusion, and the dysfunctionality of modernity, among other themes. This section presents works by artists: Tania Bruguera, Jeannette Chávez, Eugenia Calvo, Alexander Apóstol, Teresa Serrano, Amalia Caputo, and Priscilla Monge. Lastly, the theme of location centers on the Latin American landscape approached from different points of view, as it addresses poetic, urban, and inequality issues. Adriana Bustos and Regina Galindo are two of the participating artists who explore images of urban matters and social inequalities through their works. For their part, artists Thiago Rocha-Pitta and Cao Guimaraes do the same but through a more natural and "aesthetic" approach. The participating artists in the exhibition include: Narda Alvarado (Bolivia), Alexander Apóstol (Venezuela), Brigida Baltar (Brazil), Lucas Bambozzi (Brazil), Tania Bruguera (Cuba), Adriana Bustos (Argentina), Eugenia Calvo (Argentina), Iván Candeo (Venezuela), Amalia Caputo (Venezuela), Jeanette Chávez (Cuba), Donna Conlon (U.S. / Panama), Juan Manuel Echavarría (Colombia), Regina Galindo (Guatemala), Cao Guimaraes (Brazil), José Antonio Hernández-Diez (Venezuela), David Pérez-Karmadavis (Dominican Republic), Jorge Macchi (Argentina), Erika Meza (Paraguay) and Javier López (Cuba), Priscilla Monge (Costa Rica), Amalia Pica (Uruguay), Miguel Ángel Ríos (Argentina), Thiago Rocha-Pitta (Brazil), Martín Sastre (Uruguay), and Teresa Serrano (Mexico).
