Funded by the Fundación Cisneros/Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, the CIMAM 2016 grant program offers four grants to support the attendance of modern and contemporary art museum directors and curators from Latin America—preferably professionals living in Central America and the Caribbean—to the 2016 edition of CIMAM's Annual Conference on "Museum and Its Responsibilities" that will be organized in Barcelona from November 18 through November 20, 2016. Applications will be accepted from August 23 to September 14, 2016. Grants are restricted to modern and contemporary art museum directors and curators who reside in Latin America—with priority given to applicants from Central America and the Caribbean—in need of financial assistance to attend CIMAM's Annual Conference. The call is also open to researchers and independent curators whose field of research and specialization is contemporary art theory and museums. While curators of all career levels are encouraged to participate, priority will be given to junior curators with ten or less years of professional experience in the field. Candidates that had previously received CIMAM grants will not be considered for a new grant before three years have passed. The support is limited to covering the conference registration*, travel expenses (round trip ticket in economy class), and accommodations in one of the hotels recommended by CIMAM. The allocation of funds will be based on a case by case determination of the needs of each recipient. Funds are to be exclusively used to support the purpose for which they were granted. *Registration includes access to all conference sessions, workshops, lunches, dinners, refreshments, access to organized visits and transportation services to and from planned visits. Selected candidates will also receive a copy of the program of conferences and a courtesy handbag. The funds will not cover registration and expenses associated with the post-conference trip. Candidates are invited to complete the registration form online and include a CV, a brief biography and two letters of recommendation by professionals or experts familiar with the candidate's qualifications. The travel grant applications will be evaluated by the CIMAM Travel Grant Committe, formed by the President of CIMAM and eight board members, along with the Fundación Cisneros/Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros. The grants are awarded based on an assessment of the professional's true financial need, the potential benefit to his/her development and/or research, as well as the relevance of his/her experience in the field in connection to the CIMAM's objectives. The list of grantees will be announced once all the selected candidates have accepted the Terms and Conditions of the grant.
