Galician curator Chus Martínez (Ponteceso, A Coruña, 1972) will become the new Chief Curator at El Museo del Barrio in New York City after working as Head of the Curatorial Office and member of Core Agent Group of the recently closed dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel.
Chus Martínez has held other positions at national and international cultural institutions, among these: Curator at Espai Montcada of the Fundación La Caixa (Barcelona), from 2001 to 2002; Director of the Sala Rekalde (Bilbao) and Director of the Frankfurter Kunstvereun (Frankfurt), from 2005 to 2008. Martínez has also participated as guest curator of some of the most prestigious international events around the world, among these: the 29th São Paulo Biennial (2010), SITE Santa Fe Seventh International Biennial (2008); the 50th Venice Biennale (2005) as curator of the National Pavilion of Cyprus.
From May of 2008 to January of 2011, before working at dOCUMENTA (13), Martínez was Chief Curator at MACBA (Museu d'Art Contemporani) in Barcelona,.
