Charles Esche

The director of the Netherland's Van Abbe Museum, Charles Esche, has been selected as the new curator for the next edition of the São Paulo Biennial, to be held in 2014.

Besides helming the Van Abbe Museum in the city of Eindhoven, Esche (Scotland, 1962) has curated several international exhibitions, such as the 9th Istanbul Biennial in 2005 and two editions of the Riwa1 Biennial in Palestine, among others.

Luis Terepins, president of the São Paulo Biennial Foundation, explained that Esche's selection was motivated by his ideas, aligned with the contributions of art to society.

For the selection process, the Foundation used criteria such as the curator's familiarity with contemporary artistic creation and his critical discourse.
