The doors to La Fábrica's renovated 400-meter space, devoted to cultural activities, opened last May 31st. Located on 9 Alameda Street in Madrid's emblematic Paseo del Arte, this space is at the crossroads between the Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, and Reina Sofía museums, next to CaixaForum.
Established in 1995 and the originator of cultural projects such as PHotoEspaña, Matador magazine, the Jameson Notodofilmfest internet-based film festival, or the Eñe literary festival, La Fábrica becomes now a new meeting point for the general public, with a bookstore, an art gallery, an educational area, and a "gastrotheque".
The bookstore, which specializes in photography, carries more than a thousand titles from the most important international publishers, a wide selection of photography journals, and a selection of old books on art and photography. The art gallery will focus on new collectors, presenting editions of works by important figures at accessible prices. The center debuts with an exhibition by Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki, Flower Paradise, which is currently part of PhotoEspaña's Off Festival selection.
The educational area will be devoted to courses and workshops on photography, art, literature, film, and cultural promotion. La Fábrica will also host meeting with artists, roundtables, conferences, special presentations, and projections around different aspects of contemporary culture.
