On June 1, the Museo Reina Sofía began the selection process for the Director of the Institutional Cabinet, the Director of Communications, and the Director of Studies. Following the completion of the process, the director of the museum, Manuel Segade (in application of Article 9.2.ñ) of the MNCARS Statute, today proposed to the Standing Committee of the Royal Board of Trustees the appointment of Carlos Urroz (Madrid, 1966) as Director of the Institutional Cabinet, Diana Lara (Madrid, 1977) as Director of Communications and Julia Morandeira (Bilbao, 1986) as Director of Studies.
The evaluation commission examined and evaluated 43 candidates who applied for the position of Director of Institutional Cabinet, 111 candidates for Director of Communication, and 46 for Director of Studies. The committee was chaired by the Deputy Managing Director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Julián González Cid, and included two other members: a representative of the Royal Board of Trustees, Guadalupe Herranz Escudero, Secretary of the Royal Board, and a representative of the Deputy Director of Management, Sara Horganero Gómez, Deputy Assistant Director of Management.
Carlos Urroz Arancibia (Madrid 1966) is a Cultural Manager and Advisor to Artistic Institutions. He works with foundations and cultural institutions to develop their projects and thus generate a positive impact on the public and society, adapting structure, content, media, and activities to make them sustainable and viable. He is a professor of the Master's Degree in Curatorship at the Universidad de Navarra and the Universidad Nebrija.
Diana Lara has a degree in Humanities from the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid, a Master’s in Corporate and Institutional Communication Web 2.0 from the Universidad de Alcalá, and a Master’s in Online Reputation & Community Management from the Universidad de Barcelona, Diana Lara (Madrid, 1977), has been working as an expert in Corporate Communication and Cultural Management since the late 90s. In 2017, she joined, after a competitive process, the position of Press Coordinator of the Museo Reina Sofía, a position she currently holds and which she combines with that of Associate Professor at the Universidad Camilo José Cela.
Julia Morandeira Arrizabalaga (Bilbao, 1986) is a researcher, curator and educator. Since 2023, she has been director of the Paris headquarters of KADIST, a contemporary art organization that develops important international work through its collection and programs that seek to situate artists’ work in the social debates of our time. She is also a lecturer at Leiden University (The Netherlands) since 2022, where she coordinates and teaches the course Social and Ecological Justice Activism in the Visual Arts and is a lecturer in the degree of Exhibitions.
