The Fundación Botín presents Apparent (Poetic-Political), an exhibition of recent works by Cuban artists Carlos Garaicoa under the curatorship of Vicente Todolí, which will remain open to the public until March 1 of 2015. The show consists of about 35 works created in several media such as installation, video, photography, sculpture, pop-up books and drawings that offer viewers a close look into the aesthetic imaginary and critical discourse of Garaicoa. Proyecto Frágil (Fragile Project, 2014) is a piece inspired by the city of Santander that the artist conceived specifically for this exhibition. It is a landscape that recreates a large port city—including its geography, ships and cranes—by using thin sheets of glass held together with magnets. This type of work, which Garaicoa has been developing since 2010, remits to the fragility of cities and of certain areas where its economic and political potential is exploited. Apparent (Poetic-Political) reveal several social realities through a variety of languages and supports that interact with viewers and invite them to reflect on the ability of architecture to alter the course of history and the failure of modernity as a catalyst for social change.
