A new educational proposal: Capital Junior College
Under the directorship of former Colombian Minister of Finance, Rudolf Hommes, Capital Junior College opens its doors in the traditional neighborhood of La Soledad, in Bogota. This initiative proposes a new educational system in Colombia modeled after the US junior colleges.
The method used allows adults and students from ninth grade and up to acquire skills and knowledge in several areas and in a short period of time; areas of basic education similar to those taught at universities during the first year. It is a high-quality technical education that facilitates the students' eventual entrance in the job market. Likewise, it gives them the opportunity to learn with responsibility, in an autonomous manner, in collaboration with other classmates, and always under the tutelage of instructors.
Initially, the College will offer art and computer design workshops and a video program with courses in sound, lighting, set design, and script writing for movies and TV. In collaboration with the Colegio Nuevo Gimnasio, the space will also offer courses in finance, administration, accounting analysis. The College with also join forces with the Colegio Fontán, to present a basic education series, similar to the one offered at Harvard, Los Andes, and the Universidad Nacional.
To be admitted, students must take a classification exam. Those who do not meet the minimum requirements may participate in a remedial program that covers language, communications, mathematics, humanities, history, and general knowledge. Students can register for a special program or in specific courses.
