Fort the first time since its conception almost ten years ago, the award granted by the CNI-SECS institution named after well-known gallery owner Marcatonio Vilaça will not open its call for artists to participate.
Instead, organizers will select five artists who, accompanied by a curator, will produce works for the period of a year that will then be presented in a traveling exhibition through several cities in Brazil.
Organizers will announce during the exhibition a new group of winners who will receive a purse of up to R$ 30,000.00 (USD$ 13,860.00).
According to the latest statement by Claudia Ramalho—CNI-SECS's culture coordinator—that appears in the most recent article written by Silas Marti for Folha de São Paulo periodical, "This is the first time that we are not going to have an award ceremony. Instead, the staff will work on evaluating the works from all the artists awarded during these ten years (…) We are working on a new set of regulations."
Instead of an award ceremony, an exhibition is scheduled for 2014 at the Muse de Arte Histórico in Rio de Janeiro with works by winning artists selected during past editions of the event.
