Botero Women. A new book devoted to the theme of women in the work of Colombian artist Fernando Botero.

Botero's celebrated female figures are the central topic of this new book dealing with the artist's fascination with women. Contrary to the oft-heard description of them as "fat, Botero defends the notion that his women are monumental, "not filled up with pastries, but hungry for space," as Carlos Fuentes writes in the text accompanying the book. A large selection of images illustrates the diversity of Botero's "women," from his recreation of the Gioconda, Velásquez's Meninas, Our Lady of Colombia, and Marie Antoinette, to anonymous figures who also bring their beauty, plasticity, and sensuality to the mix.
