BiennaleOnline

BiennaleOnline is the first art biennial conceived exclusively for cyberspace; the first edition, titled Reflection & Imagination, will open on April 26th, 2013, featuring works by the world's most prominent emerging artists, covering Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and the Middle East.

Led by Jan Hoet (previously the artistic director of Documenta IX and now Artistic Director for the first edition of BiennaleOnline), thirty contemporary art curators selected 5 artists each, with a minimum of two artists from their own country of origin. The selection group was comprised of Rodrigo Alonso (Argentina), Laurent Busine (Belgium), Lara Boubnova (Bulgaria), Adriano Pedrosa (Brazil), Josée Drouin—Brisebois (Canada), Gerardo Mosquera (Cuba), Rebecca Vadel Lamarche (France), Martin Germann (Germany), Katerina Gregos (Greece), Chang Tsong-Zung (Hong Kong), Vincenzo de Bellis (Italy), Ranjit Hoskote (India), Gideon Ofrat (Israel), Javier Hontoria (Spain), Yuko Hasegawa (Japan), Hyunsun Tae (South Korea), Cuauhtémoc Medina (Mexico), Elena Sorokina (Russia), Nataša Petresin-Bachelez (Slovenia), Manray Hsu (Taiwan), Lorenzo Benedetti (The Netherlands), Catherine David (UAE), Joanna Mytkowska (Poland), Daniel Birnbaum (Sweden), Giovanni Carmine (Switzerland), Fulya Erdemci (Tukey), Hans Ulrich Obrist (United Kingdom), Nancy Spector (US, East), and Jens Hoffmann (US, West).

The curators in this roster are widely recognized in the arts community for the relevance of their work with international institutions.

The number of works per artists is unlimited and includes recent and older productions in techniques as varied as photography, new media, installation, performance, painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking, among others.

A central exhibition, curated by Jan Hoet, will present a selection of the 25 most important artists participating in the Biennale. The list of participating artists will be presented to the press on April 15th, 2013.

BiennaleOnline is organized and sponsored by ART+, an online initiative established by David Dehaeck and Nathalie Haveman. Art+ is a mobile exhibition platform that, after two years of intensive preparations, is now presenting BiennaleOnline. Participating artists will receive 30% of all revenue from admissions.

Visitors can enter the show starting on April 19th, 2013. Starting on July 15th, admission will be free, and the Reflection & Imagination biennale will remain open in perpetuity.
