FEMSA Biennial

Intended to recognize, strengthen, stimulate and promote artistic creation in Mexico, the call for submissions for the 12th FEMSA Biennial was launched a few months ago and will continue to receive proposals through March 1, 2016, at 11:59 pm (Central Mexican Time). This edition of the Biennial will feature two sections: Curatorial Program and Competition, to be held at Centro de las Artes and other locations in the city of Monterrey, Mexico. The Grand Acquisition FEMSA Prize gives 200,000 pesos each to winners in the two-dimensional and three-dimensional categories. There is also an additional acquisition fund for selected works, adding another 200,000 pesos to the total. Two cultural residencies will be granted, one for each artist receiving an honorary mention in each category; these residencies are provided by the Ecole Supérieure d'Art et Design de Saint-Etienne, in France, through the Monterrey Alliance Française. The call is open to Mexican artists or foreign artists with two years of accredited residence in Mexico, as individuals or as collectives. Candidates must have at least one solo exhibition and two group exhibitions in their CV (verifiable by means of catalogs, invitations, or similar documents) and are required to comply with the Biennial's regulations. Each artist can present for consideration by the jury a minimum of two works and a maximum of four. Works can be submitted individually or as proposal for a project or series comprising up to four items; in the latter case, a written justification is required. Works can be submitted in any of the following formats: Two-Dimensional: An individual format measuring up to 200 cm in each of its sides. The projection of works in video format will have up to 15 minutes of effective exhibition. Three-Dimensional: Works must not exceed measurements of 300 x 300 x 300 cm, nor weigh more than 500 kg. Submissions must include materials and elements that allow for their display in the future. Ephemeral works or works featuring elements that endanger the safety of people of buildings will not be accepted. If selected, works must be delivered as they were submitted for consideration and ready for their exhibition. Any work not adjusted to these specifications will be disqualified. The FEMSA Biennial only accepts works that are the property of their authors and are dated 2014 or after, have never been exhibited, and are not under consideration in any other competition or event. Replicas of previous works will not be accepted. The Organizing Committee will name a jury to evaluate submissions and select works for the exhibition. To that end, candidates must register and send their documentation via www.bienalfemsa.com. There they will also find the complete rules and regulations for submission.
