This ceramist studied to become a meteorologist in his natal Argentina. He began to work in airlines until he met his wife Susana Espinosa and got an interest for clay. The work in favor of Puerto Rican ceramics done by the Hogan-Espinosa marriage has been vital for the development of this media in Puerto Rico, not only in the field of creation but also in that of promotion and education. Most young ceramists in Puerto Rico have been their pupils. Unlike his wife, Hogan prefers to work with more technical media and makes his works using the Torne. His scientific mind lead him to study clay and male experiments with enamels, mixtures and other possibilities; to make extensive research with pigments and fabricate his own enamels. The color created by Hogan and the way he applies and combines them, hold a strange attraction, beauty and harmony. In the same way, his vessels show off a fascinating harmony and elegance. For the work of the Circle of Art at Museo de Arte de Ponce, Hogan re worked some shapes used during the 1980´s. During that decade he made a series of winged vessels. The small ones were hand made in collaboration with Heidi Vera and hand painted by the artist. Each one of them is a unique piece. During the process of construction he completed several vessels until he was satisfied with their proportions and volumes. The part that demanded more of an effort was the space between the two ¿wings¿ to be in balance with the rest of the pot. The same thing occurred with color, for which he made multiple tests and painted several layers that allow us to enjoy the result of this small work.
