The Fundación Botín announces the opening of its 2013/1014 call for scholarships and grants directed to education, research and personal projects.
The event will allocate 220,000 euros for the development of personal projects in the field of artistic creation—non-theoretical works—for artists of any nationality.
The financial help will go directly to the beneficiary and cannot be divided or transferred to anyone else. This support is incompatible with any other type of support from other institutions.
The scholarships and grants will cover a maximum period of 9 months. Those occurring in places other than the place of residence can be extended by another period through a formal request within the deadlines of the public call. The winning candidates who do not have to change their country of residence will receive a purse of 16,000.00 euros. Those who do have to move to another country will receive the amount of 24,000.00 euros. The aforementioned amounts include expenses associated with traveling, living, upkeep, studio rent, etc.
These scholarships are subjected to Spanish taxation. The payment will be made in the following manner: 45% initially, and 25% during the following two regular trimesters, and 5% upon the final reception.
Applicants must comply with the following requirements:
-Be between the ages of 23 and 40, for the educational scholarships and no age limit for the research scholarships.
-The support can be accessed from the moment it is granted, for the period agreed-upon and without interruption.
-It is essential that the application and use of the scholarships begins before the end of 2013.
-Once the foundation has received the applicant's acceptance by writing, the scholarship will be regarded as officially granted.
Applicants must submit the following documentation: Application form duly completed. Spanish nationals or residents must submit a copy of a Spanish government-issued ID card—NIF or NIE—while foreigners must present a passport or ID document issued by their country. A Curriculum Vitae that includes education completed, professional activities, exhibitions, awards, grants, etc. that does not exceed 3 one-sided A4 pages. Graphic documentation, color impressions or photocopies of the artist's work. Original works or any accompanying documentation like catalogs, pamphlets, etc. will not be accepted.
For Personal and Research projects candidates must also include: Title of the project and a brief description of the work (no more than 100 words) A project report: objective, execution plan—phases of development and dates—and a personal explanation of why it is important to develop it (no more than 10 one-sided DIN A4 pages long).
To apply for the academic scholarships applicants must also include: information about the education center or residency they have chosen—including place, datelines, rates, etc.—a project report that justifies the personal gain of staying in that institution and its effect if undergoing projects (no more than 3 one-sided Din A4 pages long).
The paperwork submitted should preferably be written in Spanish although exceptions can be made for documents in English. Because of organizational and evaluation requirements, that candidate's paperwork must be presented in one-sided DIN A4 paper, using a maximum of 40 DIN A4 pages (without staples and unbind). Any application that does not meet these requirements will not be accepted. In the case of audiovisual projects, artists will be allowed to submit a DVD accompanied by the required dossier. Beca Artes Plásticas must be clearly written on the envelop. Once submitted, the dossier will not be returned, even after the results have been announced.
