TEOR/éTica and ICI (Independent Curators International) offers a full scholarship to participate in the next Curatorial Intensive program in Mexico City to a Central American curator residing in the region. In collaboration with the Fundación Alumnos47, ICI presents the second Curatorial Intensive in Mexico City. This program is the fifth one organized by ICI in Latin America completely developed in Spanish. Continuing its commitment to promote diversity in the art world, the Curatorial Intensive Scholarship is a platform for curators to meet, share, and dialog with the local context through an educational curatorial program offered to Spanish speaking professionals. The crucial role of the contemporary Mexican art scene, both at the regional and international levels, offers a rich cultural stage that includes a diverse range of public and private institutions. The Curatorial Intensive is a week-long professional development platform designed to immerse participants in a rigorous calendar of seminars, presentations, field visits, and individual sessions that support the development of ideas to generate a complete program or exhibition proposal. It represents a unique opportunity to generate a network of pairs and establish future collaborations. The workshop is directed by proactive individuals who work independently or through institutions. Seminars, field visits, individual counseling, and group conversations will be headed by a group of professionals that include: Jessica Berlanga-Taylor (chief curator, Fundación Alumnos47), María del Carmen Carrión (director of Public Programs and Research, ICI), Tamara Díaz-Bringas (researcher and independent curator, Madrid), Sol Henaro (curator, Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo / MUAC, Ciudad de México), André Mesquita (researcher, São Paulo), Yasmil Raymond (associate curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture, The Museum of Modern Art, New York), Osvaldo Sánchez (Artistic director, inSite / Casa Gallina, Mexico City), and Lucía Sanromán (director of visual arts, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts), among others. Application guide: Between 12 to 14 individuals will be selected from among the pre-enrolled international applicants. Candidates must have more than three years of curatorial experience. They must submit a 500 word text about their ideas for the project to be developed during the Intensive. The text must describe the concept of the proposal and include a list the artists considered for participating in it. The application will also require a brief biography of the applicant that does not exceed 250 words, a 500-word letter of intent, and a 300-word critical review of an exhibition that the candidate considers relevant. The applications are in Spanish and the selection of proposals will be entrusted to the ICI. The deadline to submitt all applications is July 28, 2017.
