Nowadays, the fields of Art History, Painting Conservation and Restoration, and Material Sciences are connected in research processes related to the authenticity of artworks and material goods. These fields are increasingly complemented by financial and legal expertise connected to the world of art.
A variety of specializations come together in the processes of art authentication. However, no protocols are in place for the exchange of knowledge and experience acquired regarding the authenticity of paintings, either locally or internationally.
The goal of this Congress is to address and elucidate issues of ethics with an international scope. Besides its educational character, the congress seeks to foster broad international cooperation amongst all of the disciplines involved.
The Congress will be held between May 7th and 9th, 2014, at the renowned Louwman Museum in The Hague, the International Peace and Justice City.
The program will address the following topics: Common terminology and understanding; Standards for scientific and technological research; Education and entertainment; Cataloguing and publishing; Art and Law; History of painting authentication; Connoisseurship and the issuing of opinions.
Lectures and discussions will be recorded in an audiovisual format and will be made available to participants. The program is divided into daily modules, as follows:
May 7: Historical development and authentication processes, c. 1700 – c. 1940
