Asir la vida. Mujeres artistas en Chile (1965-1990) (To Grasp Life. Women artists in Chile (1965-1990)). Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

El Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Chile will present, until September 29th of this year, the group exhibition “Asir la vida. Mujeres artistas en Chile (1965 - 1990)” (Women Artists in Chile) curated by the Argentinean art historian Andrea Giunta.
The exhibition explores the contribution of Chilean artists who aspired to reshape the different socio-political links of their country. More than 100 works are exhibited, including prints, paintings, drawings, photographs, textiles, performance pieces, as well as documents and archives, highlighting female consciousness for social transformation in different political processes and situations in Chile.
The 25 participating artists present events in different periods and political and social crises from perspectives of gender, poetics, erotics, with a focus on human rights or practices labeled as feminine. These artists were selected for their relevant role in the contemporary world scene and for their strategies as researchers and creators.
Therefore, the exhibition invites us to reflect on the present, the importance of memory and its continuity in the construction of the nation. It also explores identity in artistic practices, female roles, representations of bodies, resistance in public life and censorship.
