Visual Arts and Architecture Workshops

Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo is offering, for the school-recess season, several educational workshops for participants of all ages. The museum presents a workshop in which participants will learn about the creation of patterns, repetition on the basis of various media such as drawing, motion, and recycling of materials with the purpose of giving them a new meaning, as in the work of Brazilian artist Jac Leirner. This workshop is connected to the retrospective titled Jac Leirner: Funciones de una variable, which brings together a significant sample of Leirner's 30-year career to explore the dominant themes in her production. Participants in this workshop must be 5 years old, or older. In the workshop titled Trazos y trozos, participants—who also must be 5 or older, accompanied by an adult—wil be able to create an abstract composition based on some of the paintings in the museum's collection and on Rufino Tamayo's mixographies, experimenting with various materials, colors, and textures. For participants who are 8 or older, the museum has organized the workshop Arquitectura de sombras, where they will discover how light and shadow impact the experience of a building and the way in which we inhabit space. Open to all, the Prismas constructivos workshop will allow participants to discover the different architectural shapes that can be obtained through the simple use of prisms, prevalent in the museum's design. Finally, in the Arquitectura monolítica workshop participants will work on a building in the style of Museo Tamayo, based on a single block of material, without any kind of visible juncture.
