Arte sur

On November 17 of last year, editor and curator Albertine de Galbert officially presented, at the Centre Georges Pompidou, the internet site created by her and dedicated to Latin American contemporary art: arte sur (arte-sur.org). Sponsored by the Maison de l'Amérique latine in Paris, and with the support of the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Cercle de recherche "América Latina" in Beaubourg (a research group), this bilingual project (Spanish-English) was designed to showcase the activity of various players in the contemporary art world-curators, critics, gallery owners, museums, residencies, specialize press, biennials, fairs, festivals, etc.-as well as the most recent artistic proposals. Albertine de Galbert traveled for a year, from the Argentinean Patagonia to the north of Colombia, and met with artists and heads of art institutions to build an important database that served as the point of departure for her project. By September of 2011, the site already included 850 artists, 150 curators, 40 art critics, 160 galleries, 170 exhibition venues, 27 artistic residences, 17 fairs, 13 festivals, and 14 biennials. An open source of information available to anyone, this network relies on many links both from Europe and Latin America. Its objective is to promote dialogue and cooperation between several actors in the art world interested in the extremely rich and diverse artistic production of an entire continent.
