Latin American Art of the 20th Century Espace Bellevue in Biarritz

The show Passion and Reason of a constructive spirit perturbed by Latin America, composed of more that 100 works by maestros of Latin American art of the 20th century and artists of recent generations, will be exhibited in the Espace Bellvue in Biarritz. The exhibition is formed of works from the Franco-Venezuelan collector and business man Bernard Chappard. The exhibition will be seen within the frame of the Biarritz Festival, from the end of June until October 2006. Passion and Reason of a constructive spirit perturbed by Latin America unites an important group of works by Joaquín Torres-García, Gonzalo Fonseca, Francisco Matto, Jose Gurvich, Julio Alpuy and Manuel Pailós. Other great creators such as Armando Reverón, Jesús Soto, Carlos Cruz Diez, Alejandro Otero, Gego, Edgard Negret, Fernando Botero, Wifredo Lam, Rufino Tamaño, Francisco Toledo, Leon Ferrari and Roberto Matta, will be represented in the important show whose selection of work, as well as the words in the catalogue, have been the responsibility of Maria Elena Ramos, Venezuelan curator specialized in 20th century art; whilst the logistical organization of the project is the responsibility of Frederica Palomero, Franco-Venezuelan curator specialized in Latin American art. The show also includes works by international artists such as Le Corbousier, Poliakoff, Vasarely, Nevelson and Basquiat. The curator proposes a reading of the ways of producing art within what she has called ¿a constructive spirit¿. The show wants to establish a closer and more intimate link with the spectator, for which she has designed a both esthetic and didactic route. Bernard Chappard began his work as a collector in the 1950s and since then his passion has been growing, and for many years he has been dedicated to the struggle against HIV and AIDS through the Daniela Chappard Foundation that he has presided since 1996.
