2017 Young Art Award

Sponsored by Colsanitas and the Embassy of Spain in Colombia, the Young Art Award reaches its 10th edition. This year the event will grant twenty-nine million Colombian pesos in awards. The call is open to Colombian and international artists of legal age living in Colombia and who, on the day of the award ceremony (September 30, 2017), have not turned 31. Employees and contractors, as well as their-degree relatives, associated with Colsanitas, the Galería Nueveochenta, or the Embassy of Spain are not allowed to participate. Artists can participate with one work that does not exceed 2 × 2 meters and that is light enough to be handled and moved by no more than two persons without the use of any equipment. If the work consists of more than one piece (diptychs, for instance), then the combined length of the exhibited pieces must also not exceed 2 × 2 meters. Participants may choose any theme or medium to create their works. The works submitted can be two-dimensional or three-dimensional (objects and sculptures). The finalist works will be exhibited at the Galería Nueveochenta (Diagonal 68 # 12-42, Bogotá, Colombia) from September 26 through September 30 of 2017. An accompanying catalog will be available online at www.bacanika.com. The deadline of the call and the exhibition dates may be modified by the organizers. Awards: • First Place: Fifteen (15) million Colombian pesos allocated by Colsanitas or the Embassy of Spain for the purchase of the winning work. • Mentions: Two recognitions consisting of a purse of seven (7) million Colombian pesos each for the acquisition of work by Colsanitas or the Embassy of Spain. The artists selected must certify that their works are original and unique. Any claims regarding the illegal use of copyright protected material belonging to a third party must be answered by the participants. The works acquired by Colsanitas or by the Embassy of Spain will be exhibited in the corresponding hospital or corporate contexts of those institutions with the objective of promoting and disseminating Colombian art, encouraging young artists in Colombia, establishing new cultural spaces, and generating interest in the visual arts among the people who visit those hospitals and corporate environments. The jury reserves the right not to confer an award. Colsanitas, the Embassy of Spain, and the Galería Nueveochenta also reserve the right to acquire, at a price agreed upon by the artist and Colsanitas, any of the other works accepted in the competition. In the event that a work is sold to a collector not associated with the organization of the competition, the Galería Nueveochenta will charge a 20 percent commission from the sale value of the work, while the remaining 80 percent will go to the author of the work. This commission will not apply to the winning works. Participants must complete the application online at the Bacánika homepage. There, in addition to entering their personal information, participants must include a brief description and a JPG image of the work that does not exceed 1 MB (the image can consist of several photographs or fragments of the work, but it must be presented as a single archive). Serial works (such as photographs or engravings) must be specified in the description text and, if the work is awarded, the author must attach the certificate attesting to the originality and uniqueness of the piece or series. The deadline to submit all applications is August 27, 2017, by 23:59 pm. For more information and to apply visit: https://www.bacanika.com/convocat...
