Argentine Art in the Malba Collection1989-2010 Works

From June 10 to August 29, the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires presents a selection of over 100 works from its collection that were created between the end of the 1980s and present time by 60 Argentine artists. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photographs, objects, installations, and videos that showcase the great variety of visual production of recent decades. The exhibition offers a survey of the art scene of the last twenty years in Argentina. It begins with the generation of artists that belonged to the Rojas group and to the under movement in the Buenos Aires of the end of the 1980s that included artists like Liliana Maresca, Feliciano Centurión, Gumier Maier, Omar Schiliro, Marcelo Pombo, Sergio Avello and Alberto Goldenstein. It then continued with the generations marked by the educational spaces offered-beginning in 1991 and still ongoing-by the Taller de Barracas and the Beca Kuitca that included artists like Daniel Ontiveros, Mónica Girón, Román Vitali, Marina de Caro, Nicola Costantino, Fernanda Laguna, Marcos López, Cristina Schiavi, Pablo Siquier and Magdalena Jitrik; and artists working in today's artistic scene such as Daniel Joglar, Ignacio Lasparra, Guillermo Ueno, Manuel Esnoz, Tomás Espina, Catalina León, Miguel Mitlag, Flavia Da Rin, Diego Bianchi, Guillermo Faivovich, Leopoldo Estol, and Matías Duville, among many others. The exhibition aims at showing a panoramic view of contemporary Argentine art through the works in the Colección MALBA that have been added since September, 2001, through the institution¿s Acquisitions Program, donations or loans. The exhibition is accompanied by a 148 page bilingual catalog (Spanish-English) that includes texts by MALBA's president Eduardo F. Costantini, and by head curator Marcelo Pacheco. The catalog also contains color reproductions of the works and the biographies of the participating artists.
