The Chamber of Commerce of Bogota through its ARTBO program launches a new initiative to promote the distribution and exposure of the visual arts of Bogota: ARTBO / Weekend. The initiative is an event that will concentrate in three days several actions aimed at promoting the commercialization, dissemination and distribution of works by national and international artists, as well as encouraging the production of the visual arts sector in Bogota. A total of forty-two spaces, including galleries, independent venues, museums, and other institutions, will open their doors from May 19 through May 21 to showcase a wide range of exhibitions and the most prominent proposals by national and international artists. It will become an opportunity to rediscover the rich offerings of cultural initiatives available in the city, to attend important painting, sculptural, and photography exhibitions, and to establish direct dialogs with artists, gallery owners, and curators. All the activities developed during this weekend will be free. To ensure broader participation, ARTBO / Weekend will offer a free transportation system that will guarantee the mobility of the public throughout the different venues and spaces. This routes will also connect the three sectors in which the activities are concentrated: Macarena/Downtown, Chapinero/North, and San Felipe. Additionally, every participating space will have a group of experts in charge of guiding the public through the exhibitions in the various spaces and walks. María Paz-Gaviria, director of ARTBO, said that "The Chamber of Commerce of Bogota has been supporting the cultural and creative industries for thirteen years because of their positive economic impact on the city. ARTBO / Weekend is a new initiative aimed at having a positive impact on the sector and positioning Bogota as a cultural and business destination, in addition to offering platforms for cultural exchange and the education of the public." Paz-Gaviria also explained the ARTBO / Weekend is based on the "Gallery Weekend" international model developed in other cities like Berlin, Madrid, New York, Mexico City, and São Paulo; and that the event will also offer an academic forum, directed by Latin American art expert Ana Sokoloff, in which themes associated with art collecting and the art market will be discussed. Visitors may also go to the editorial encounter organized at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogota that will include the presentation of 20 projects centered on the production of art publications and artists' books, as well as talks, presentations, and roundtables.
