Art Basel appoints new director in Basel

On May 6, Art Basel appointed Maike Cruse as Director of Art Basel in Basel, a specially created position. Cruse will join Art Basel on July 1, 2023, leading the 2024 edition. Cruse is currently the director of Gallery Weekend Berlin, which just celebrated its 19th edition. She will bring extensive fair experience; she directed Art Berlin Contemporary (2012-2016) and Art Berlin (2016-2019); she is also very familiar with Art Basel, having worked as Communications Manager from 2008 to 2011.
As Director of Art Basel in Basel, she will work closely with the galleries and the global community of collectors and institutions. Reporting to Vincenzo de Bellis, Director, Fairs and Exhibition Platforms, and working closely with Andreas Bicker, Head of Business and Management Europe, she will be responsible for shaping the direction of the fair and strengthening its pre-eminent position as a global platform for discoveries and encounters that drive the art world forward.
