The Fundación Alejandro Otero-Mercedes Pardo opened its doors on November 16 in the house that once was the home of the two great masters of Latin American and Venezuelan art that the foundation is named after. Located in San Antonio de Los Altos, in the state of Miranda, near Caracas, its international launching took place in the context of the last edition of Pinta Miami International Art Fair. Educational in nature, this foundation aims at encouraging research on the life, works and thinking of these two artists, as well as preserving and disseminating their artistic legacies. For this purpose, it offers an important collection of photographic, newspaper, bibliographic and non-bibliographic archives, along with mail and other documents that belonged to Otero and Pardo. There is also an art library and a documentary archive with first-hand material, a collection which they first began to develop during the 1940s. On the other hand, the foundation will promote exhibitions, publications, educational programs and cultural events that are aligned with its objectives. Mercedes Pardo and Alejandro Otero married in 1951 in Paris. Back then, both were exploring geometric abstraction and actively participated in salons and galleries, both in Europe and in Venezuela. While Otero had begun his process towards abstraction during the mid-1940s and, by 1950 had already become its main advocate along with other artists from the Los Disidentes group, Mercedes Pardo, on the other hand, kept her creative autonomy. Although not very vocal about it, she was actively involved and supportive of the events that back then were crucial to elicit change in the Venezuelan artistic landscape. While Otero revolutionized the art of the country through his "Colorhythms" based on lines and planes of pure color, Pardo stood out for showing the sensitive and reflexive sides of her personality. She eventually became a famous colorist, as her husband turned into one of the most important representatives of geometric and kinetic art of Latin America. The General Director of the Fundación Alejandro Otero-Mercedes Pardo is Professor Mercedes Otero-Pardo. Its associate director is Alex Slato. Its board is formed by international figures, collectors, curators and researchers, including: Louis Kremp, Rafael Romero, Carmen Julieta Centeno, Surpik Sarikian, Tanya Brillembourg-Capriles, Manuel Vegas, Luis Benshimol, Francine Birbragher, Juan Carlos Maldonado, Alfonso Williams, and Jesús Fuenmayor, among others. The foundation's address is: Quinta Sansueña, Urbanización El Toronjil, San Antonio de los Altos.
