The 2022 Winners of Latinx Artist Fellowship

The Mellon Foundation and the Ford Foundation joined forces for the second consecutive year to support the work of Latinx artists - artists of Latin American and Caribbean descent who live and work in the United States - and who have made fundamental contributions to North American culture. The funds Provide philanthropic and institutional support to 75 Latinx artists over five years, selecting 15 artists each year, of which five are emerging artists, five mid-career artists, and five established artists. The awards are administered by the US Latinx Art Forum (USLAF) in collaboration with the New York Foundation for the Arts. This award is the first significant prize of its kind and celebrates the plurality and diversity of Latinx artists and aesthetics.
On this occasion, those selected were: Amalia Mesa-Bains, Consuelo Jimenez Underwood, Maria Magdalena Campos Pons, Cándida Alvarez, Rosemary Meza-DesPlas, Jay Lynn Gomez, the video collective Las Nietas de Nonó, Tanya Aguiñiga, Maria Gaspar, Lucia Hierro, Koyoltzintli, Leslie Martínez, Carmelita Tropicana, Juana Valdés and Vincent Valdez.
The first initiative launched in 2021, with a combined commitment of $5 million from the Mellon and Ford Foundations, to provide $50,000 in unrestricted funds each to a total of 75 Latinx visual artists through 2025. Additional funds support fellowship administration and capacity building at USLAF.
