Selection of artists announced for the 28 Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest
The jury of the 28 Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest made the selection of artists and works to be exhibited in October 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the face-to-face meetings planned in the bases were rescheduled and carried out virtually.
María Amalia León de Jorge, president of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation and director of the Centro León, chaired the initial meeting on March 25th, in which she thanked the juries Gabriela Rangel, Gerardo Mosquera, Raquel Paiewonsky, and Sara Hermann for their interest and availability to carry on these tasks despite the difficult circumstances that the world is currently experiencing.
From this announcement and as in the last editions, the selected artists will have the follow-up of a curator appointed by the Centro León during the development of the proposed works.
The selected artists are Andrea Ottenwalder, Awelmy Sosa, Charlie Quezada, Ernesto Rivera, Franz Caba, Guadalupe Casasnovas, Johanna Castillo, Joiri Minaya, José Morbán, Juan Cid, Juliany Ariza Volquez, Lizania Cruz, Mckornin Salcedo, Melissa Bonilla, Milena Volonteri, Raúl Morilla, Tomás Pichardo, and Yoel Bordas, and the collectives Juana sino su hermana and Suspicious Package.
The 28 Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest is sponsored by the Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes and the Cervecería Nacional Dominicana.
About the contest: In 1964, E. León Jimenes called the first Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest, which has become one of the leading private initiative art competitions in Latin America.
From its origins, the Contest has the fundamental purpose of promoting creativity and cultural values of the Dominican nation and its producers. The training process that this event brings, not only brings a space for dialogue for artists but also extends the action to other emerging creators.
