The Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano pays tribute to Colombian artist Antonio Samudio with an exhibition that celebrates Lozano's return to his native country, his 80th birthday and an artistic trajectory that expands 50 years. The exhibition will remain open until September 23, 2015. Consisting of black and white prints, the exhibition at the MAV will offer a survey of Samudio's graphic proposals that include a collection of 160 artworks. It is curated by Ana María Escallón, Juan Manuel Roca and Santiago Mutis. A parallel exhibition will be presented at the Galería Alonso Garcés that will feature works in color by the artist. The curatorship is also conceived to rescue and promote printmaking, to showcase its aesthetic possibilities and to impress upon viewers its important role not solely as an artistic medium but also from a thematic point of view. Speaking about her father's printmaking work, Patricia Samudio said, "He is mostly a painter of oils, but through the years he found in printmaking an alternative form of expression. For him printmaking is a fun and spontaneous expressive medium that is soothing and connects him with life. It has served him as a vehicle for addressing social issues, a way to express and even complain about the things that he feels deeply about. My father has made several artists' books; he began with El Libraco de Grabados (The Big Printmaking Book). But his love of printmaking has not stopped him from continuing his artistic pursuits as a painter."
