The work Gabriel by Colombian artist Antonio Caro was selected from among 136 participants from 13 Ibero-American countries who participated in the call organized by the Fundación Gabriel García Márquez for new Ibero-American journalism. Gabriel is the representation of a life-size pc keyboard created in bronze with gold leaf. The keys have no letters and the only marks are the numbers 1 through 7 placed on the keys that form the word Gabriel. According to Caro "The keyboard is an everyday tool used by journalists. Journalists know by heart the letter or sign that corresponds to each key." The jury entrusted to evaluate the proposals was formed by Nydia Gutiérrez (Venezuela), chief curator at the Museo de Antioquia and profesor of curatorship profesor in the Masters degree program in Museography from the Universidad Nacional in Bogota; Gonzalo García-Barcha (Mexico), designer, painter, ilustrador and book editor; and Germán Rey (Colombia), journalism expert, psychologist, director of the Centro Ático of the Universidad Javeriana and member of the del board of directors of the Gabriel García Márquez Award in Journalism. The award ceremony will be presented on October 1 of 2014 in the city of Medellin.
