Until June 10, 2012, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies presents the exhibition entitled Antoni Tàpies. Collection # 3.
The exhibition offers a survey of Tàpies' oeuvre through works that belong to the Foundation and that were produced during several creative periods of his artistic career extending from 1940 to shortly before his death in January of this year. Materials, techniques, concepts, and formal approaches are part of a selection of works that immerse viewers in the trajectory and artistic contexts experienced by Tàpies.
The first part of Antoni Tàpies. Collection # 3 is divided in two reflections: the extrapictorial materials and the density of matter, present in works created in 1946 and 1947; and his surrealist approaches, encouraged and influenced by the works of Joan Miró, Paul Klee, and Max Ernst.
In the works created during 1954 and 1955, the reflections are associated with Tàpies' initial interest in matter and other transgressions of form. On the other hand, the works he produced between 1960 and 1970 acquired a three-dimensional presence—objects—and addressed social themes.
During the 1980s, his works stood out for the use of varnishes and chamotte clay. Tàpies' last works reveal an interest in everyday surroundings and the nature of art.
