The new wing dedicated exclusively to American Art has just been inaugurated at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The architectural project, designed by Foster & Partners architects of London, has materialized into a four-storey building that showcases through its 53 galleries three millenniums of American art history and culture; paintings, furniture, sculptures, musical instruments, textiles, fashion and jewelry from North, Central, and South America. During his intervention at the inaugural ceremony, the Museum's Director Malcolm Rogers affirmed that ¿This project has increased the Museum's exhibition real estate by 28 per cent and represents the largest initiative in the world centered on American art and culture.¿ This expansion allows the exhibition of thousands of works from the museum's collection that have been stored for decades due to lack of space. One of these works is the canvas by Thomas Sullys entitled The Passage of the Delaware (1819) that depicts George Washington at the moment he is crossing the Delaware to carry out a surprise attack on British troops. Another works is the painting entitled George IV, Prince of Wales (1809) by John Singleton Copley.
