This year, the AICA awards to notable artists for 2013 come with a long delay, as happened with many other important events that had to be postponed due to the violent events in Venezuela during the first semester of 2014. The awards ceremony will take place this September at Galería Ascaso. For this occasion, a jury comprised of Katherine Chacón, Roldán Esteva-Grillet, and Susana Benko was unanimous in awarding the following recognitions: Established Master Award: Noemí Márquez; Established Artist Award: Carlos Zerpa; Emerging Artist Award: Jesús Moreno; International Projection Award: Arturo Herrera; Award for efforts in the promotion of Venezuelan visual arts: Tráfico Visual. Diana López and Gabriela Olivo de Alba will receive the Awards to Outstanding Figures in the arts, the former as the President of Cultura Chacao and the later as actions for the promotion of Mexican culture in Venezuela, as Cultural Attaché. The Award for Institutional Efforts goes to the Trasnocho Arte Contacto (TAC) gallery of the Trasnocho Cultural Foundation; the special award for an educational and cultural institution goes to Universidad Central de Venezuela's Preservation and Development Council (PRED, in its Spanish acronym). In the exhibition category, Vigas Constructivista. París 1953-1957, curated by Bélgica Rodríguez at Arte Ascaso gallery receives the award for Best Large-Format Solo Exhibition. The award for Best Small and Medium Format solo exhibition will be given to two simultaneous shows by Vasco Szinetar: El ojo en vilo at Sala Mendoza and Cuerpo de exilio at La Caja, Fundación Cultural Chacao, both curated by Lorena González. Ética, estética y política, curated by María Elena Ramos at GBG Arts, is recognized as Best Group Exhibition. In terms of publications, the Criticism category is awarded to Roberto Obregón en tres tiempos, written by Ariel Jiménez, design by Constanza and Sigfredo Chacón, published by ExLibris with the sponsorship of the C&FE (Carolina and Fernando Eseverri) Collection. In the Testimonial category, the award goes to Luis Domínguez Salazar. El pintor de los misterios, by José Pulido, edited by Carmen Useche de Domínguez, Impresos Rubel C. A. The catalog-book Alberto Riera. El arte de la biosfera rota, written by Carlos Maldonado-Bourgoin, designed by César Sardá, published by Lo Nuestro es Cultura and printed by AJL Producciones in Barquisimeto wins the Monograph category. In the Catalog category, the winner is Bípedos. Francisco Pereira, designed by UAIO Antor, printed by La Galaxia, and presented at Galería D'Museo's exhibition of the same title. The digital journal Museos.ve, with its 1-29 editions corresponding to 2013, will receive the award for Communications. The journal is produced by the Instituto de las Artes de la Imagen y el Espacio (IARTES), designed by Maryury Rojas, and coordinated by Rebeca Guerra and Nany Goncalves, who were part of the Editorial Committee alongside Vivian Rivas until early 2014.
