Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei recently announced donation points of Lego bricks for his next project. The announcement was made via the artist's Instagram account, after the Danish company barred the artist from placing a large-scale order, citing the project's political motivation. The issue spilled into social media in recent days, when admirers of Ai Wei Wei offered to donate their own Lego bricks. Using his Instagram account, the artist established a network of donation points located in different cities throughout the world where bricks will be collected. The project will create portraits of important Australian Human Rights figures, to be exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria, in Melbourne. The Lego Corporation responded in this way: "We respect freedom of expression and individual rights, and we do not censor or prohibit the use of Lego blocks (…). However, as a company dedicated to delivering great creative play experiences to children, we refrain—on a global level—from actively engaging in or endorsing the use of Lego bricks in projects or contexts of a political agenda. This principle is not new". (The Guardian, October 25th, 2015, Maev Kennedy)
