Affective Architectures

Aluna, the curatorial team formed by Adriana Herrera and Willy Castellanos, presented on December 6th an exhibition titled Affective Architectures in its Miami space, and it will remain open through February 21st. The show features works by twenty four artists from countries in the Caribbean, Latin America, and Spain: Milton Becerra (Venezuela), Esteban Blanco (Cuba/USA), Carola Bravo (Venezuela/USA), Monika Bravo (Colombia/USA), Tania Candiani (Mexico), Fernando Carabajal (México/Germany), Consuelo Castañeda (Cuba/USA), Othon Castañeda (Mexico/USA), Eduardo Costa (Argentina), Juan Raúl Hoyos (Colombia/USA), Pablo León de la Barra (Mexico/USA), Gonzalo Lebrija (Mexico), Alberto Lezaca (Colombia), Gabriel de la Mora (Mexico), Atelier Morales (Cuba/France), Ronald Morán (El Salvador), Bernardo Olmos (Venezuela/USA), Ernesto Oroza (Cuba/USA), Gamaliel Rodríguez (Puerto Rico), Rafiño (Cuba/USA), Leyden Rodríguez-Casanova (Cuba/USA), Mariasun Salgado (Spain), Sergio Vega (Argentina/USA), and Viviana Zargón (Argentina). As the title indicates, the conceptual basis for the show is the way in which architecture is seen by these artists through images and mementos. The exhibition brings together real images of cities with others that are imaginary, as a kind of memory of unrealized projects. It brings forth those images that remain engraves in memory, and it also confronts us with the grandiloquent projects of the Modernist era that remained as failed attempts. Affective Architectures prompts us to question our immediate surroundings with an inquisitive gaze. In an urban location now in the midst of urban expansion, such as Miami, such an art show is a warning about the importance of the city and its shifting character. The exhibition will remain open through February 21st at Aluna Foundation in Miami, with the support of the city's Mexican Cultural Center.
