Historias en los márgenes, a retrospective exhibition of works by Adriana Varejão, reaches Buenos Aires after traveling through two institutions in Brazil.
MALBA will present it on March 27th through June 30th, 2013 (Gallery 5, second floor). The show, organized by São Paulo's Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM), where it was first displayed, brings together works from a 20-year career.
The curatorship is by Adriano Pedrosa and includes works now in important collections across the world. The disposition of the 38 works included follows a chronological sequence, loaded with political and social themes.

The Histories in the Margins are, in the curator's words, "marginal histories, often forgotten or pushed to the margins—in Brazil as much as in Portugal or China—by traditional historiography of art, of the Baroque, or of colonization. Varejão investigates, salvages, and connects these Histories in her painting". For the artist, the past is neither closed nor dead; it is constantly being recreated. History is a living thing, and this is one of the main drivers of her work…"
