The Azcuy Prize is an annual open call and national contemporary art competition. Their objective is to recognize and promote artistic production in Argentina, encourage the presence of visual arts in urban and residential environments, and explore the link between art and architecture, achieving a positive impact on the local community.
The acquisition award is $800,000 Argentine pesos, granted by AZCUY, which will also fully cover the winning work’s production costs. It will be located on the ground floor of DONNA Acqua, one of the buildings that the company is currently developing in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Caballito. Mundo Imaginal, is a mural displayed on the entire ceiling of the lobby consisting of two celestial planets and a river map. In an operation of a subjective association, the installation recovers the neighborhood’s history and, in relation to a diversity of data that builds a non-linear historical narrative.
“Thinking about this project was, from its inception, an enriching experience, conceiving a work outside the conventional spaces of art. The project involves research work before its completion, and thinking about these two instances generates great joy and enthusiasm for me,” said Adriana Bustos.
The Jury in charge of selecting the winner was made up of Victoria Noorthoorn (Director at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires), Fernanda Brenner (Founder and Director of Pivô, São Paulo, Brasil), Mónica Giron (artist), Carlos Huffmann (artist and Director of the Art Departament at the Universidad Di Tella), Javier Villa (Senior Curator at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires), Alejandra Aguado (Curator at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires), and Sol Juárez (architect, manager of Proyecto Creativo, AZCUY).
Due to the context of the pandemic in which the second edition of the award took place, the organizers adopted new virtual tools so that participants can learn about the intervention spaces.
