Abraham Cruzvillegas

Autoconstrucción is the title of an exhibition of the work of Abraham Cruzvillegas, open to the public simultaneously at the Jumex Foundation and the Museo Amparo in Puebla. The series of works that comprise the Autoconstrucción project begin with the observation of a home as a whole, noting details created using improvised techniques derived from the urgency of giving shape to a human habitat by any means necessary. Interested in what he deems self-construction, Cruzvillegas anchors his practice on the urban landscape of childhood, referencing that infancy and youth home, so fragmentary in its experience, as a while where improvised details born from spontaneous needs become central. "Many of the works reveal my desire to confront two or more radically distinct economic systems, producing hybrid marriages and unexpected combinations of materials and techniques. There is no representation of technical construction details, but a reproduction of the diverse dynamics involved", the artist says. Autoconstrucción can be visited through February 8th, 2015.
