Applications Now Being Accepted for the New CAPACETE 2015 Residency

CAPACETE will start a new one year-long residency program in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for a maximum of 12 international participants dedicated to research, the visual arts practice and critical thinking. The first edition will begin in March of 2015. The deadline to enter all applications is May 15, 2014. The vision of the residency is based on a look at the current context of globalization created through the unequal social distribution of labor and the accumulation of wealth increasingly shaped by the speculative markets. Many contemporary cultural expressions are large-scale events that often target a mainstream public or a restrictive elite. This reduces and neutralizes the concrete ethical and political reach of art and its potential to promote debate and to inspire other ways of working, thinking, relating and living. The objective of the residency is to create situations and to develop strategies that offer a concrete and real alternative. The program is designed to reflect the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary aesthetic practices by working with artists and thinkers whose efforts articulate the theoretical world with artistic presentation in various formats and dynamics and for different publics. Twelve participants will be selected. Four will be given to Brazilian candidates, four to South American candidates, and the remaining four to candidates from around the world. The program will last ten months, from May 1 to December 20, with a one month break during the month of July. The team of advisers and professors for the 2015 residency will be formed by: Andrea Fraser, Suely Rolnik, Amilcar Packer, Helmut Batista, Carla Zaccagnini, Daniela Castro, Pedro de Niemeyer Cesarino, Ricardo Basbaum, Bik van der Pol, Cristoph Keller and Jorge Menna Barreto. The head advisors for the program: Amilcar Packer, Manuela Moscoso and Helmut Batista will remain in their posts and will be involved in the development of the participants' work for the entire duration of the program through several meetings scheduled throughout the year. These advisers will also head seminars and talks for the annual program. CAPACETE will also invite artists, theoreticians, curators and other contributors with different professional backgrounds to propose courses, seminars and other forms of exchange with participants, taking into account their interests and objectives, even when it pertains to special guests. Application will only be received by email at: opencall@capacete.net More information about the program and how to apply is available online at the event's website: www.capacete.net
