This is an innovative round of conferences created and organized by Gerardo Mosquera-Fernández that was conceived of as a highly specialized seminar for Argentine and Chilean art critics, historians, artists, curators, collectors, and directors of artistic institutions and researches, took place from past March and to continue until November, the conferences have been well received by a numerous and knowledgeable attending public. Each month, conferences that were followed by discussions with the public have been held, and have included distinguished keynote speakers of the art world such as : Bartomeu Mari (Spain), Cuauhtémoc Medina (Mexico), Ivo Mesquita (Brazil), Gloria Moure (Spain, Taiyana Pimentel (Cuba/Mexico), Gerardo Mosquera-Fernández (Cuba/U.S.) , Rosina Cazali (Guatemala), José Ignacio Roca (Colombia) and Vicente Todolí (Spain/U.K.) The institutions responsible for the event and the venues where these conferences have taken place are: The Spanish Cultural Center of Buenos Aires (CCEBA, its acronym in Spanish), the Proa Foundation (Buenos Aires), and the Spanish Cultural Center of Santiago (CCE-Santiago, Chile). Mosquera-Fernández¿s idea was simple, effective, and direct: To invite nine Spanish and Latin-American contemporary art curators to show and discuss their work in Buenos Aires and Santiago, by way of two 3 hour-long public sessions to be held in each of those cities. Because nine curators were selected, within the established time frame each would hold one conference each month. The curators presented their works in a straightforward fashion by discussing a selection of the exhibits they have organized. The curators presented several groups of images associated with their curatorial works, the artists they chose to present, and scrupulously analyzed the conceptual, aesthetic, organizational, museographic, educational, and editorial aspects ¿ among others ¿ related with the particular exhibits and projects they have put together. In addition, they conveyed their ideas, positions, objectives, and interests from the roles they played as curators. In other words, more than just speaking about art, theory, or curatorship in general, the curators employed their specific works as the basis for discussing and studying their personal approaches together with the audience, similar to that which artists usually engage in during illustrated talks about their works. Each presentation set aside sufficient time for the audience to ask questions and for debate. Because of the guidelines set forth by the institutions organizing the event, the selection of participants has represented the Ibero-American world exclusively. The curators have not been invited in representation of their respective countries of origin; they have been selected because of the local and international relevance of their work, their professional experience, and for the variety of postures and approaches they embody. Each guest is introduced to the public by a local curator from the city hosting the event ¿ Buenos Aires or Santiago, and presented a busy an dynamic two-day program that includes visits to artists¿ studios, museums, and exhibitions. If possible, this local curator is expected to accompany the guest throughout his/her entire visit. Each program is created in close collaboration with the invited speaker and according to the guest¿s specific interests. This way, each curator have the opportunity to participate in four days full of activity in Buenos Aires, and another four days of the same in Santiago, Chile. The program has several specific goals: 1) To share the experiences of outstanding professionals, which would be discussed live by curators, critics, artists, cultural organizations, students, etc. from Buenos Aires and Santiago, this in light of the lack of programs available in Argentina and Chile to train curators. 2) The project represents an opportunity to learn, through criti...
