7th Edition of the Summer Seminars for Curators 2013
The next edition of seminars organized in collaboration with the Eastern European Performing Arts Platform will take place from August 12 through August 18 of 2013 in Yerevan, Armenia.
The curatorial practice, as it is understood today, has evolved across the visual arts disciplines throughout the Twentieth Century. Thus far it has expanded from exhibition making practices to incorporate other disciplines, like the design of art educational initiatives and the organization of archives and libraries. But curators have expanded their field to cover previously unexplored disciplines like poetry, music and the performing.
Such expansion originates in an ever-increasing need to synchronize the creative industries with the development of information technologies, which results in a growing demand for the proliferation of administrative and managerial mediation between the arts and its audiences. It could be said that this expansion to other realms of the artistic practice also responds to the implicit "performativity" in the curatorial endeavor, given that curators continuously interact with institutions, the public and artists as mediator between them.
In response to the growing diversity of curatorial practices at the international level, the 7th edition of the Summer Seminars for Art Curators in 2013, invites candidates to join organizers in the exploration of the double notion of "performativity" as a practice that generates desires, identities and subjectivities. Art theoreticians, artists and curators are invited to participate in the summer seminars to discuss the already mentioned practices within and outside the boundaries established by artistic institutions. The program combines lectures with roundtable discussions and performative events.
The Seminars are free of charge. Participants are expected to cover all travel and accommodation expenses. All applications must include a CV, a statement of interest and a letter directed to Harutyun Alpeyan. The paperwork must be emailed to: h-alpetyan@ica.am no later than April 30th, 2013.
