68, 70, 72. Coltejer Art Biennials

The Museo de Antioquia presents the exhibition entitled 68, 70, 72, Coltejer Art Biennials, the result of a collaborative effort between the Museo and Coltejer, an initiative developed for the dissemination of the artistic heritage and the promotion of contemporary artistic practices.

Curated by Nydia Gutiérrez and Carolina Chacón, the exhibition aims at promoting interdisciplinary research on the emergence, development and impact that the event had in the artistic and social scene of the period. The show includes works by artists from Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, United States, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The exhibition consists of 49 works by artists from 12 countries. It includes a documentary space that shares the media impact of biennials in the national context, their reflection in the international press, and the narratives produced within the event itself.

The show will include works that had participated in the three other biennials sponsored by Coltejer, among these: Atmósfera Cromoplástica (Chromoplastic Atmosphere), by Luis Tomasello, who received First Prize of the second biennial and who today enjoys ample recognition in the field of contemporary art; the oil Pintura con Espejo (Painting with Mirror) by Colombian Santiago Cárdenas, who won one of the acquisition prizes during the third biennial.

To bring this group of works together, the exhibition included pieces from the Colección Coltejer, the collection from the Museo de Antioquia as well as private collectors. During the last two months, a team of experts subjected the works to a process of disinfestation, cleaning, conservation and restoration with the purpose of finally recuperating their aesthetic and documentary values.
