5th Edition of the Biennial of Visual Arts of the Central American Istmo

The next edition of the Biennial of Visual Arts of the Central American Istmo will take place in El Salvador, from November 16th 2006 until February 2007. The event will reunite 36 artists from 6 countries in Central America who will exhibit 72 projects in the installations of the Museo de Arte in El Salvador. As well as representing their countries or origin and being included in the catalogue of the biennial, the 36 selected artists will have the opportunity to compete for the esteemed gold, silver or bronze ¿Tiahcuilos¿; prizes of USD $8,000, $6,000 and $4,000 respectively. The winners will be selected by a guest jury composed of three specialists of great international prestige in the field of contemporary arts: Santiago Olmo (Spain), Alana Lockward (Dominican Republic, Germany) and Paulo Herkenhoff (Brazil). The biennial is an effort orientated to the promotion of contemporary Central American culture and the best expressions of visual arts from the region. The organizers have announced that they expect the participation of important guests among who are curators, critics and collectors of contemporary art from Mexico, the United States, Europe and Brazil.
