54th National Culture Awards (2022)

In December 1968, the First National Salon of Young Artists was convened. This was the starting point of the university commitment that has encouraged and stimulated cultural projection in poetry, playwriting, photography, music, dance, reportage and chronicle, short stories, novels and essays, video, fine arts, cultural and artistic trajectory, and cultural management.
As it does every year, the Universidad de Antioquia announces the National Culture Awards, one of the most important cultural policies of the Institution. The call for entries will be open until July 25 at 11:59 p.m. (Colombian time), and this year it is divided into four categories:
-46th National Arts Salon, decoloniality.
-39th National Literature Award, testimony modality.
-9th Music Prize, chamber music modality.
-8th Memory Prize, decolonizing the archive.
After receiving the nominations, the anonymous juries will review, evaluate, deliberate, and choose those that, in their opinion, are the best in each category. Once this process has been completed, the finalists will be announced in September, and the winners will be announced on October 27 in a public ceremony.
The call is open to Colombians based in Colombia and foreigners who can prove two or more years of legal residence in the country, in addition to the other general and specific participation requirements described in the regulations.
El 46° Salón Nacional de Artes, as a result of the academic, political, and social responses to the processes of colonization, colonialism, and coloniality anchored in time and geopolitical configurations throughout the world, decoloniality is born, which implies the dismantling of relations and conceptions of power, gender, racial, and geopolitical hierarchies and creating other discourses and practices that suggest different ways of understanding, relating to the realities that summon us and producing knowledge.
A necessity to create and promote critical thinking through a stimulus such as the National Culture Awards to expand the conceptualization of a form of subalternity and the convergence of these as subjects to the use and creation of other sources of knowledge and other discourses —counter-hegemonic— inserted in the artistic environment; this award stands as a platform for thought and dialogue around power, aesthetics, and ethics, involving various places of enunciation and the agencies of the subjects materialized in contemporary artistic practices.
The bodies of work or complete series of works will be housed in spaces in the form of solo exhibitions, in areas of approximately 60 square meters or 30 linear meters of wall and will be presented at the University Museum of the Universidad de Antioquia.
