The 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de León's arrival to Florida will be celebrated throughout 2013. To that end, Acción Cultural Español (AC/E) has organized a program of activities to be developed in Miami between May and December of 2013.
The program will include Imagining La Florida. Juan Ponce de León and the Quest for the Fountain of Youth, an exhibition curated by Michael J. Francis that will be inaugurated on May 30 and that will remain open to the public until August 17, 2013 at the Freedom Tower, in Miami. This exhibition offers a retrospective of Florida that expands from 1513 to 1739.
The Centro Cultural de España in Miami will present the exhibition entitled A Three-way Relationship. Miscegenation, Syncretism and Hybridization in the Latin American Sound Space (from the 16th to the 20th Centuries). A survey of contemporary Spain curated by Albert Recasens, the exhibition will travel to Latin America before being exhibited in Miami.
Additionally, the Centro Cultural España will present This Is Not a Museum. Mobile Devices Lurking, a touring exhibition produced by AC/E and AcVic and curated by Martín Perán. It will open to the public from November 13, 2013 to January 13, 2014. This exhibition was also presented in Spain, Ljubljana, and Washington, and it is currently on display in Mexico.
From November through December of 2013, the Moore Building, in Miami, will present Tapas. Spanish Design for Food, an exhibition that establishes connections between design and food.
