The arteBA foundation announces the fifth edition of arteBA-Petrobras Prize for Visual Arts, aimed at supporting individual projects by Argentinean artists. Eight projects will be selected and awarded prizes. Sponsorship will subsequently be provided for their completion. The finished works will be exhibited at the arteBA'08 17 Contemporary Art Fair, held from May 29 through June 2, 2008. Artists interested in participating must send their proposals before February 8, 2008. A Selection Jury integrated by Maria Gainza (critic and essayist), Claudio Iglesias (critic and essayist) and Graciela Speranza (writer, critic and film scriptwriter) will select eight artists among the participants ¿ individuals or groups - that will first take part in the follow-up program and will then exhibit their works at the fair. The selected artists will be granted $7.000 (seven thousand pesos) to help them pay for expenses they may incur in during the completion of their projects. Once exhibited at the fair, a second award jury will grant the First Acquisition Prize that consists of $30,000 (thirty thousand pesos) and the Second non Acquisition Prize consisting of $10,000 (ten thousand pesos). The awards will be granted after the definitive in situ installation of the works. New to this edition will be the exhibit in commodatum of the First Acquisition Prize by an Argentinean museum previously selected through an open contest.
