From August 21 to February 2022, the "45th National Arts Salon, Mutis 2020", organized during the National Culture Awards of the Universidad de Antioquia, can be visited at the University Museum facilities- MUUA.
For this edition, the Salon took as a reference the work of José Celestino Mutis and, in particular, his contribution to knowledge on the botanical expedition and titled it "MUTIS 2020". This is how the National Culture Awards of the Universidad de Antioquia invited artists to participate with artistic projects with themes related to nature, promoting practices related to botany, zoology, ecology, taxonomy, permaculture, sustainable development, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and work that relates human life and nature.
The selected proposals demonstrate research processes in the arts of contemporary artistic practices, represented in traditional media (such as drawing, painting, or sculpture) or non-conventional (such as installation, video, or similar media), to provide a meaningful tribute to José Celestino Mutis. The jury selected seven exhibition proposals:
-Alberto Baraya - "Flora of Bogota. Felipe-Juan Expedition".
-Nicolás Bonilla Maldonado - "Elementary particles. Rock inventory of the Apex Geological Service.
-Ana María Espejo Cely - Methods, explorations, and excuses to approach an unfinished landscape.
-Benjamin Jacanamijo Tisoy - In search of the belly flower.
-Edwin Monsalve - Landscape drifts.
-Mónica Naranjo - From the stone to the cave.
