40 years

To celebrates its 40 year anniversary, Galería Forum invites people to join in remembering when, in 1975, a group of friends that shared similar interests, passions, hopes and desires, decided to create a new art gallery. Back then, there were just a few professional spaces for artists to exhibit their works and in which to promote the artistic productions of the young talent from that period. In four decades, the gallery has survived the Peru's political, cultural and social changes. Some of the objectives proposed by Galería Forum since its foundation include the presentation of avant-garde exhibitions, the creation of the Forum Award and fellowship offerings, conferences, book presentations, roundtables, workshops, independent movie screenings, works by emerging authors; the creation of the Club del Cuadro [Picture Club] and Club del Niño [Children's Club]; all initiatives that continue to exist and that have served the purpose of encouraging collecting, especially among young people. The history of the gallery has been based on teamwork where each member contributes his/her imagination, energy and effort to move forward an adventure that has achieved a panoramic vision of contemporary art in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, engraving, photography, installations, performance and videos, presented through the years in more than 600 exhibitions and numerous art fairs around the world. The gallery has endeavored to showcase not solely a vision of Peruvian art, but also of the Latin American and global artistic landscape. This has been achieved by presenting the works of renowned artists like Karel Appel—who created a mural in the municipality of Villa El Salvador—Andy Warhol and The New Image Painting in Argentina, among many others. To mark its anniversary, the gallery inaugurates a large group exhibition that includes the participation of almost all the artists that have exhibited in the space through the years, with works in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, photography and video. The exhibition will remain open to the public between December 12 of 2014 and January 30 of 2015, Monday to Friday from 10:30 am to 8:00 pm and Saturdays from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
