25 years

The Casa Triângulo gallery was founded in 1988 by Ricardo Trevisan, its founder and director who, amid the boom in the Brazilian art market experienced during that decade, relied on his journalistic skills to closely follow the activities of artists, art critics, curators and gallery owners. With the objective of offering more opportunities to promote and market the production of young artists, Trevisan turned his home into a gallery that held exhibitions by artists whom he intuitively selected. The second floor of the house built in 1920 boasts a triangle-shaped architectural structure and has a plaque with the inscription Casa Triângulo, which gave the gallery its name. According to Trevisan, "As a space always open to the creativity and exploration that propels the organization of experimental exhibitions at the institutional level, Casa Triângulo was established as one of the most prominent and respected contemporary art galleries in Brazil. True to its principles throughout its 25 years of existence, the institution has played an important role in the construction and consolidation of some of the most prominent artistic careers in the contemporary art scene, and has forged strong alliances with museums, as well as with public and private institutions in several countries, thus nourishing an open and inclusive dialogue in the art world." To mark the anniversary, the gallery has published a book that, more than being a historic compilation of the exhibitions organized there or of the artists discovered by the institution—such as Sandra Cinto, Assume Vivid Astro Focus-AVAF, Vania Mignone, Marcia Xavier, Rubens Mano, Albano Afonso, Lucia Koch, among others—is a publication that aims at reaffirming the gallery's connection to all who contributed to positioning the place as an important referent in the recent history of Brazilian art. The book has 850 pages, with introductory texts by Ricardo Trevisan, Lissete Lagnado, María de Corral and Moacir dos Anjos. It includes an illustrated chronology of the exhibitions presented every year; the texts designed for each exhibition; more than 300 color illustrations, a complete bibliography and abridged biographies of the artists. It was published in 2014, in Portuguese and English.
