Between 3,000 and 4,000 international participants will attend an event of high importance for members of ICOM and the international museum community. This event offers a platform for professionals working in museums around the world in order to exchange knowledge and experiences.
In 2009 the members of ICOM ratified their trust in Brazil, as they selected Rio de Janeiro as the city to host the General Conference for 2013 with the goal of exploring and discovering the cultural treasures of the city and its surrounding areas, along with everything else that Brazil has to offer.
The participants will discuss themes centered on Museums (memory + creativity) = social change.
Candidates can apply online at the conference's homepage: rio2013.icom.museum
The Comité Nacional brasileño of ICOM was founded on January 9, 1948 at the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes in Río de Janeiro. Since then, it has been actively working with the national and international museum community. In recognition of the important role this organization has played in recent decades, in 2008 former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva awarded the Cultural Order to ICOM Brazil.
