2022 AIRIE Residency open call to artists

On March 15th Artists in Residence in the Everglades (AIRIE), the South Florida-based non-profit arts organization that since 2001 has empowered artists to think critically about their relationship to the environment, announced the launch of a new National Advisory Committee. The Committee will help AIRIE further its efforts to represent the voices and work of BIPOC artists and other marginalized communities.
The committee includes: Germane Barnes, Mel Chin, Rev. Houston Cypress, Nasir Dean aka Note Marcato, Blake-Anthony Johnson, Nichole Levy, Larry Ossei-Mensah, Mikhaile Solomon and Amanda Williams.
The AIRIE Residency 2022 is currently open for artists of varied disciplines; emerging or professional artists, writers, curators, choreographers, musicians and other creatives, 21 years old or older, who want to contribute to the interpretation and communication of environmental themes through the inspiring nature of Everglades National Park.
The residency provides the opportunity to live and work inside Everglades National Park, the largest tropical wilderness in the U.S, for one year and empower them to think creatively and critically about their relationship to the environment with a mission of revealing new paths forward. Artists will be connected with park rangers, scientists, biologists, cultural historians, and community leaders to promote the understanding of the unique ecosystem of the Everglades, and our environment at large. Experiences are tailored to the interests of each artist, creating opportunities for independence as well as interaction, collaboration and public engagement.
“We are committed to empowering BIPOC artists, uplifting the voices and ideas that need to be heard and helping to preserve the Everglades and make the outdoors accessible for all,” said T. Robertson Carter, co-chair of AIRIE’s Board. “As we embark on AIRIE’s 20th anniversary year, we look forward to working with our new National Advisory Committee in creating a more inclusive roadmap for our path forward.”
Entries deadline is June 1st, 2021. For more information visit: Annual Residency — Artists in Residence in Everglades (airie.org)
